Gas Stations That Accept Apple Pay

I’m a big fan of using Apple Pay! I’ve forgotten my wallet more than a few times on more than a few trips… And boy, is it annoying. So what I end up doing is looking through my phone, trying to figure out if there’s somewhere nearby that accepts Apple Pay. Have you been there, too!?

I decided to create a list of all the gas stations that accept Apple Pay (which may vary by location) to help you!

Apple Play is a payment service available through Apple’s devices, namely iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. By linking Apple Pay with your credit or debit card, you can ensure cardless payment anywhere. It is also a contactless payment system that works using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. This avoids having to use your card or having to touch any equipment.

My experience using Apple Pay at a gas station…

Around me, my favorite gas station is Shell… I decided to give it a try just for fun. I was surprised at how easy it was to get started. It’s just like using a debit/credit card, really… I paid in advance, then got authorization from the clerk, and once that happened, I was free to fill up!

I would say it’s fairly easy to get started. If you’ve used Apple Pay in the past, this is going to be extremely easy for you to do. A great back up plan if you’re in a pinch and forgot your cash/wallet!

Do gas stations take Apple Pay, in general?

Yes, Apple Pay is accepted at many gas stations across the country. Since Apple Pay does not store card numbers and uses contactless payment is safe and secure.

This is why Apple device owners prefer to use Apple Pay whenever they make payments. Keeping this in mind, many gas stations use readers with NFC technology to accept Apple Pay.

How to make payments at gas stations using Apple Pay

Apple Pay uses NFC technology for contactless payment. You must ensure that a contactless reader is available at the pump or inside the station for payment. It is advisable to verify this before proceeding. The gas pump usually shows the Apple Pay logo to indicate you can make the payment through Apple Pay.

Take out your phone or Apple device and bring it close to the reader with the NFC symbol. Apple Pay will open on your device. To complete the transaction, you need to authenticate your device and confirm.

The authentication can be done either by:

  1. Using the passcode you have set.
  2. Face ID: where the device verifies your face before authenticating.
  3. Touch ID: where you make use of your fingerprint for authentication.

Once the authentication is done, you will see the transaction completion on your mobile. The pump display will show you instructions. Follow it to fill your gas tank!

This option explained how to pay using your device and the reader. Some gas stations allow you to use Apple Pay through their app. BPme is an app from BP & Amaco. Similarly, Exon and Shell have their own apps. These apps are usually reward apps allowing you to get rewards every time you fill gas using the app.

You need to download the app and use it while paying at the gas station. Open the app and select the payment details. Choose Apple Pay as the payment option and complete the transaction through the app. You can thus make payments through Apple Pay without using NFC. A QR code is then displayed. Use it to confirm the payment at the pump.
